Let’s start at the beginning. What is a tooth implant? An implant is a titanium screw that is secured into the jaw bone. The screw is placed in the same location that the roots would be on a typical tooth. Once the screw has been placed it is not visible. It is located inside the jawbone. After the implant has been implanted we allow it to heal for about 3-4 months. Following the healing process the screw is uncovered and an abutment is placed inside the screw. A crown is made and placed on top of the implant/abutment.
